Airlangga

King in East Java (crowned 1019, died 1049), the son of King Udayana of Bali and the Javanese princess Mahendradatta, a descendant of Mpu Sindok. Having escaped the destruction of the Javanese kingdom in 1016, he reunited East Java in the 1020s–1030s, ruled from Kahuripan and before his death divided the kingdom into Janggala and Panjalu (Kediri). He was buried at Belahan on Mount Penanggungan, where a statue of Vishnu on Garuda probably portrayed him.
