Alans
Iranian-speaking nomads of the Sarmatian world who in the 1st century AD became dominant in the steppes between the Don and the Caspian; some joined the Great Migration and reached Gaul, Spain and Africa, while those of the North Caucasus later formed the kingdom of Alania. Regarded as ancestors of the Ossetians.
