Andrei Bogolyubsky

Son of Yuri Dolgoruky, who in 1155 left Vyshgorod near Kyiv for the north-east, taking with him the icon later known as Our Lady of Vladimir. From 1157 he ruled Vladimir-Suzdal from Vladimir and from his residence at Bogolyubovo, building the Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir and the Church of the Intercession on the Nerl. His army sacked Kyiv in 1169, though he himself stayed in the north. Conspirators from his own court killed him at Bogolyubovo on the night of 28–29 June 1174.
