Anna Komnene

Byzantine princess and historian, daughter of Alexios I Komnenos and Irene Doukaina, highly educated in literature, philosophy and medicine. After her father's death she is commonly believed to have plotted against her brother John II; widowed around 1137, she lived in the convent of Kecharitomene and around 1148 wrote the Alexiad, the history of her father's reign.
