Saint Boniface

The Anglo-Saxon monk Wynfreth, renamed Boniface by Pope Gregory II (719): missionary and organizer of the church in Hesse, Thuringia and Bavaria, archbishop from 732, on whose initiative the abbey of Fulda was founded; he was killed in Frisia and is venerated as the Apostle of the Germans.
