Leonardo of Pisa (Fibonacci)
Pisan mathematician, educated at Bugia (Béjaïa) in North Africa, who in 1202 completed the Liber Abaci, a manual of Hindu–Arabic numerals and commercial arithmetic; he also wrote the Practica geometriae (1220) and the Liber quadratorum (about 1225), and in 1240 the Republic of Pisa granted him a salary.
