Gwangjong of Goryeo
Fourth king of Goryeo (r. 949–975), a son of Wang Geon. He strengthened royal power against the great families with the Slave Review Act of 956 and the civil service examinations of 958, called himself emperor and adopted Korean era names, and from 960 purged many of the old meritorious officials.
