Person
Jaya Indravarman IV
King of Champa, a learned dignitary from Gramapura who usurped the throne between 1163 and 1167 and asked the Song court for investiture. After making peace with Đại Việt he turned on Cambodia and in 1177 sacked the Khmer capital with a fleet sent up the Mekong. In 1190 the army of Jayavarman VII, led by the Cham prince Vidyanandana, took the Cham capital Vijaya and carried off its king Jaya Indravarman — probably the same man — as a prisoner; the captive was later killed by Vidyanandana.
