Lal Ded (Lalla)
Kashmiri Shaiva mystic and poet of the 14th century, also called Lalla or Lalleshwari, whose verses (vakhs) are among the earliest compositions in the Kashmiri language. Her life is known only from oral tradition and late sources: traditionally dated c. 1320–1392, she is said to have left an unhappy marriage to follow the Shaiva teacher Sed Boyu and to wander as an ascetic. She is revered in Kashmir by Hindus and Muslims alike.
