Maimonides
Moses ben Maimon (Rambam), Jewish jurist, philosopher and physician from Córdoba. Driven from al-Andalus by the Almohads, his family lived in Fez, briefly in the crusader kingdom and from the late 1160s in Egypt, where he became head of the Jewish community and physician to Saladin's chief minister al-Qadi al-Fadil and the Ayyubid court. His code of Jewish law, the Mishneh Torah, and his Guide for the Perplexed made him one of the most influential Jewish thinkers of the Middle Ages.
