Michael Psellos
Byzantine scholar, rhetorician and statesman, born Constantine; Michael was his monastic name. Adviser to emperors from Constantine IX to Michael VII and "chief of the philosophers" at Constantinople, he revived the study of Plato and wrote the Chronographia, the principal source for 11th-century Byzantium.
