Pepin of Herstal
Frankish mayor of the palace of Austrasia from about 680, grandson of Pepin of Landen. His victory at Tertry (687) made him the real ruler of all the Frankish kingdoms as “duke and prince of the Franks”; he was the father of Charles Martel.
