Rashid al-Din Hamadani
Persian physician, statesman and historian (c. 1247–1318) from a Jewish family of Hamadan, who converted to Islam at about the age of thirty. Vizier of the Ilkhans Ghazan and Öljeitü from 1298, he compiled at their command the Jami’ al-tawarikh, ‘Compendium of Chronicles’, and founded the Rab’-e Rashidi, a quarter of scholarship in Tabriz. Dismissed under Abu Sa’id and accused of having poisoned Öljeitü, he was executed in July 1318.
