Republic of Pisa
Maritime republic centred on the Tuscan city of Pisa, a rival of Genoa and Venice with a merchant quarter in Constantinople and trading rights in the Byzantine Empire and the Levant. Its decline began with the defeat by Genoa at Meloria in 1284, and in 1406 it was annexed by Florence.
