Person1094–1150
Suryavarman II
Khmer king (1113 – c. 1150), a grandnephew of Dharanindravarman I, who seized the throne of Angkor in 1113 and, in George Coedès’ words, led the Khmer armies farther than they had ever been before. He renewed relations with the Song court, waged long and largely unsuccessful wars against Đại Việt, occupied the Cham capital Vijaya in 1145–1149 and built Angkor Wat, in which he was deified as Vishnu under the posthumous name Paramavishnuloka.
