Person
Zhang Zeduan
Chinese painter of the Song dynasty, known as the author of the handscroll Along the River During the Qingming Festival. Almost all that is known of him comes from a colophon of 1186 on the scroll, which calls him a Hanlin academician from Dongwu (in present-day Shandong) who came to study in the capital and excelled at ruled-line painting of boats, carts, markets and bridges. Later writers placed him at Emperor Huizong's painting academy; his dates are unknown.
