Jalal al-Din had about 30,000 men against a much larger Mongol army, yet the fighting was stubborn. According to tradition, Genghis Khan, admiring his opponent’s courage, forbade his men to shoot after him. The defeat completed the conquest of the Khwarazmian Empire.
