Abu Tahir al-Jannabi
Abu Tahir Sulayman al-Jannabi, ruler of the Qarmatian state of Bahrayn from 923, a younger son of its founder Abu Sa'id. He sacked Basra (923) and Kufa, destroyed pilgrim caravans, invaded Iraq and threatened Baghdad (927–928), and in January 930 sacked Mecca and carried off the Black Stone. After the fiasco of the ‘mahdi’ he had proclaimed (931) he made peace with the Abbasids (939); he died of smallpox in 944.
