al-Hasan ibn Sulaiman (Abu al-Mawahib)

Sultan of Kilwa (c. 1310–1333) of the Mahdali dynasty, called Abu al-Mawahib, ‘father of gifts’, for the generosity that Ibn Battuta witnessed. He minted copper coins in quantity and is the only known ruler of Kilwa to have struck gold coins; he reconquered the island of Mafia, raided the mainland, built the palace and trading emporium of Husuni Kubwa and apparently enlarged the Great Mosque of Kilwa.
