Al-Ya'qubi
Ahmad ibn Abi Ya'qub, known as Ibn Wadih or al-Ya'qubi, historian and geographer from a family of Abbasid officials in Baghdad. He served the Tahirids in Khorasan and later the Tulunids in Egypt; his writings contain the earliest known mention of Kanem, and his Book of Countries describes the cities of the caliphate, among them Baghdad and Samarra.
