Baekje
Kingdom in south-western Korea (traditionally 18 BC – AD 660), one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, with its capital in the Han River basin (modern Seoul) until 475. A maritime power with close ties to the rulers of Kofun-period Japan, it received Buddhism in 384 and passed Chinese writing and Buddhism on to Japan.
