Bahram V (Bahram Gur)

Sasanian king of kings from 420 to 438, known as Bahram Gur. Raised at the Lakhmid court of al-Hira, he fought brief wars with the Eastern Roman Empire and the Kidarites; in his reign the Arsacid kingdom of Armenia gave way to a Persian governor. He is a hero of Persian poetry, from Ferdowsi to Nizami.
