Baldwin II of Jerusalem
Baldwin of Bourcq, son of Count Hugh I of Rethel, went on the First Crusade in the army of Godfrey of Bouillon, became count of Edessa in 1100 and was king of Jerusalem from 1118 until his death in 1131. He spent years as a prisoner of the Turks (1104–1108 and 1123–1124), governed Antioch as regent after its army was destroyed in 1119, approved the founding of the Knights Templar and left the kingdom to his daughter Melisende and her husband Fulk of Anjou.
