Bardas
Byzantine statesman, brother of Empress Theodora and uncle of Michael III. After the murder of the logothete Theoktistos in 855 he governed the empire for ten years, from 862 with the title of Caesar; he promoted learning and the missions to the Slavs, and in 866 was murdered by Basil the Macedonian at Miletus.
