Leo the Mathematician
Byzantine scholar, also called Leo the Philosopher (c. 790 – after 869), a relative of the patriarch John the Grammarian; metropolitan of Thessalonica (840–843) and later head of the school of the Magnaura in Constantinople, credited with the clocks of the beacon system that linked the Arab frontier with the capital.
