Cosmas Indicopleustes
Alexandrian merchant of the 6th century who traded on the Red Sea and visited Aksum. Around the middle of the century he wrote the Christian Topography, which argued for a flat, tabernacle-shaped world but preserved invaluable descriptions of Adulis, the Indian Ocean trade and the churches of India and Sri Lanka.
