Emperor Kōtoku
Prince Karu, younger brother of Empress Kōgyoku, placed on the throne after the Isshi coup of 645. In his name the Taika era and the reform edict of 646 were proclaimed and the court moved to Naniwa; in 653 the crown prince Naka no Ōe took the court back to Asuka, and Kōtoku died at Naniwa the next year.
