Emperor Tenji
Prince Naka no Ōe, son of Emperor Jomei and Empress Kōgyoku. With Nakatomi no Kamatari he killed Soga no Iruka in 645, became crown prince and led the Taika reforms; after the defeat at Baekgang (663) he fortified western Japan, moved the capital to Ōmi and in 668 took the throne as Emperor Tenji.
