Emperor Zhenzong of Song
Third emperor of the Song dynasty (r. 997–1022), a son of Emperor Taizong. In 1004–1005 he led his army to Chanzhou on the Yellow River against a Khitan invasion and concluded the Chanyuan peace with the Liao. He favoured Taoism — in his reign ‘Heavenly Texts’ glorifying the ruling house were announced and he performed the great sacrifices at Mount Tai; from 1020 he was ill and Empress Liu handled affairs of state.
