Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad
Ghurid sultan from 1163, ruling from Firuzkuh; a son of Baha al-Din Sam, nephew of Ala al-Din Husayn and elder brother and partner of Mu’izz al-Din, Muhammad of Ghor. In 1173 he took Ghazni from the Oghuz and installed his brother there; in 1175 he took Herat from the Seljuks, and he fought the Khwarazmshahs Tekish and Muhammad II. His name and titles are inscribed on the minaret of Jam. He died in Herat in 1203 (1202 by some sources) and was buried at its Great Mosque.
