Grand Principality of Serbia
Medieval Serbian state, called Rascia (Raška) in Western sources after its seat at Ras. Often under Byzantine overlordship, it was united and enlarged by Stefan Nemanja in the late 12th century and in 1217, when his son Stefan was crowned, became the Kingdom of Serbia.
