Güyük Khan

Eldest son of Ögedei and third great khan of the Mongol Empire (1246–1248). After the regency of his mother Töregene he was enthroned near Karakorum on 24 August 1246 in the presence of the papal envoy Giovanni da Pian del Carpine, whom he sent back with a letter demanding the pope’s submission. He died in April 1248 while leading an army west, towards the lands of Batu.
