Person
Hummay
Mai (king) of Kanem in the later 11th century — about 1075–1086 or 1085–1097 by different reconstructions of the royal chronicle — remembered as the founder of the Sayfawa dynasty, which ruled Kanem and later Bornu until 1846. His predecessors Hu and Selema were already Muslims, so he was not, as is sometimes said, the first Muslim king; he died in Egypt, apparently on the pilgrimage to Mecca.
