Idris I
Idris ibn Abd Allah, a Hasanid descendant of the Prophet who survived the Alid defeat at Fakhkh (786), fled to the far Maghreb and was recognised as imam by the Awraba Berbers at Walila (Volubilis) in 788 or 789. The founder of the Idrisid dynasty and of Madinat Fas, he was poisoned in 791, allegedly by an agent of Harun al-Rashid; in Morocco he is honoured as the founder of the state.
