Iltutmish
Shams ud-Din Iltutmish, a Turkic slave who rose in the service of Qutb ud-Din Aibak and became his son-in-law; sultan of Delhi (1211–1236). He defeated his rivals Yildiz and Qabacha, received recognition from the Abbasid caliph in 1229, completed the Qutb Minar and established Delhi as the capital of the sultanate.
