Jeong Do-jeon
Korean Neo-Confucian scholar-official (1342 or 1337 – 1398), the chief adviser of Yi Seong-gye and the principal architect of the early Joseon state. Allied with Yi from 1383, he helped to bring him to the throne in 1392, compiled the Joseon gyeonggukjeon (‘Code for the Governance of Joseon’), laid out the new capital at Hanyang and attacked Buddhism in the name of Confucian learning; in 1398 he was killed by Yi Bang-won in a struggle over the succession.
