Person
Langdarma
Darma U Dumtsen, the last king of the united Tibetan Empire (838–842), called Damo in the Chinese histories and Langdarma, “Darma the bull”, by later Tibetan writers. Buddhist tradition portrays him as a persecutor who closed the temples and was shot dead by the Buddhist hermit Lhalung Pelgyi Dorje; Chinese sources call him dissolute and cruel and say that he died without a son. His death in 842 was followed by a disputed succession and the break-up of the empire.
