Mahavira (mathematician)

Jain mathematician of the Kannada-speaking south of India in the mid-9th century, also called Mahaviracharya. In the reign of the Rashtrakuta king Amoghavarsha I, whom he praises in its opening verses, he wrote the Ganitasarasangraha, a manual of arithmetic, algebra and geometry that was widely known in South India and was translated into Telugu verse by Pavuluri Mallana, probably in the 11th century.
