Person800–878
Amoghavarsha I
Rashtrakuta king (814 – c. 878), also called Nripatunga, the son of Govinda III, who came to the throne as a boy and reigned for some 64 years. He built the new capital of Manyakheta (Malkhed); he lost Gangavadi and Malwa but defeated the Eastern Chalukyas of Vengi, and was drawn more to literature and religion than to war. The Kannada treatise on poetics Kavirajamarga goes under his name, and Jain scholars such as Jinasena and the mathematician Mahavira enjoyed his patronage.
