Maya civilization
Civilization of the Maya peoples of southeastern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and the western parts of Honduras and El Salvador, known for its city-states, pyramids, hieroglyphic writing and calendar; its Preclassic period lasted until about AD 250 and the Classic period until about 900.
