Muhammad bin Tughluq
Sultan of Delhi (1325–1351), the eldest son of Ghiyath al-Din Tughluq, founder of the Tughluq dynasty. As crown prince (Ulugh Khan) he took Warangal and ended the Kakatiya kingdom in 1323. In his reign the sultanate held, for a time, provinces as far south as Ma‘bar (Madurai) and then began to fall apart: the elite of Delhi was moved to Daulatabad, a token currency failed, Ma‘bar, Bengal and the Deccan rose in revolt, and Vijayanagara and the Bahmani Sultanate arose in the south. The Moroccan traveller Ibn Battuta served at his court as a qadi of Delhi.
