Nestorius
Archbishop of Constantinople from 428 to 431. His teaching on the two natures of Christ and his preference for calling Mary “Christotokos” rather than “Theotokos” led to his condemnation by the Council of Ephesus in 431; he died in exile. The Church of the East was later called “Nestorian” after him.
