Pope Damasus I

Bishop of Rome from 366, elected amid bloody fighting with the supporters of his rival Ursinus. He restored the tombs of the martyrs in the catacombs, was named in the Edict of Thessalonica (380) as a standard of the true faith and commissioned Jerome to revise the Latin Bible.
