Rakai Pikatan
King of Mataram in Central Java in the 840s and 850s, a Shaivite, whose personal name was dyah Saladu. He is usually credited with beginning the Shiva temple of Prambanan, and he is thought to have married the Buddhist princess Pramodawardhani, a daughter of the Shailendra Samaratunga. In J. G. de Casparis’s reading of the Shivagrha inscription, he defeated a rival and in 856 handed the throne to Dyah Lokapala.
