Sima Guang

Chinese historian and statesman of the Song dynasty, leader of the Conservatives who opposed Wang Anshi's New Policies. Out of office during the reforms, he completed the Zizhi tongjian, a chronicle of China from 403 BC to 959, presented to the throne in 1084; recalled after Emperor Shenzong's death, he became chief councillor in 1086 and repealed most of the reforms before he died that year.
