Theodora
Byzantine empress, wife of Justinian I, crowned Augusta on 1 April 527. A former actress of humble birth, she became his influential partner in government: according to Procopius, she dissuaded him from fleeing during the Nika riots, and she protected the Miaphysites against the church policy of the empire.
