Vardan Mamikonian
Armenian prince of the Mamikonian house and sparapet (commander-in-chief) of Armenia, a grandson of Catholicos Sahak; he led the revolt of 450–451 against Yazdegerd II’s attempt to impose Zoroastrianism and fell at Avarayr. The Armenian Church venerates him and his companions as martyrs.
