Vijayabahu I
Sinhalese king (reigned c. 1055–1110), born Kitti, who took the name Vijayabahu on becoming ruler of Rohana in the south of Sri Lanka, while the north of the island was a Chola province. After years of war he drove the Cholas from Polonnaruwa about 1070, made the city his capital and restored the Buddhist order with the help of monks from Burma; he is known as Vijayabahu the Great.
