Vladimir the Great
Son of Sviatoslav, prince of Novgorod from 970 and of Kyiv from 978 or 980; he set up a pagan pantheon, then accepted Christianity from Byzantium, married Anna Porphyrogenita and had the Kyivans baptised in 988. Venerated as a saint.
