Person
Wat Tyler
Leader of the Kentish rebels in the English Peasants’ Revolt of 1381. Little is known of his earlier life: chroniclers say he came from Essex, had served in France as an archer and was a charismatic leader. He led the rebels from Canterbury to London and was killed at Smithfield on 15 June 1381, during his meeting with Richard II.
